OWN STYLE AND IDENTITY

Here in this image, which I named "Painful Pirouette", I was in a very emotional mood. I wasn't having the best day and in this case, like most, I was definitely dressing according to my mood.I wanted the world to know, that everyone has their own problems and that nobody should judge anyone, until all the answers have been taken into consideration. This baby pink cardigan shows off my sensitive side and I love the attention to detail of the beading. The black netted tutu skirt was bought from JayJays and is definitely a fave item in my closet! The headband was made from a piece of ribbon I found lying around the house. I love using random pieces of material and making them into individualistic pieces of fashion.

I believe fashion is more than just about looking good. It's mostly about expressing yourself! I have named this picture "Deep Purple",as that seemed to accompany my mood. I was feeling very chilled and what better way to chill out then having blasting music in your ears. The shorts were bought at a Chinese shop. I love Chinese shops! I think they have the best clothes at a great price, and I can get away with wearing a large!=) I dig the whole torn denim look too. These clothes were so comfortable and the long black top was actually pretty warm! I'm obsessed with long striped socks.... I believe they're like the statement of punk rock! I have a bunch of them in different colours!

Here in "Skullvillain". Black and pink go so well together and I felt like jumping around for some reason... maybe it was a sugar high but I don't know. Here I felt like going for the more girly-goth look. These black shorts that I'm wearing have lasted me so long... and they are from Mr Price. Can you believe that these cute knee highs were bought at a costume shop in Edenvale?!Yeah, I felt like dressing up that day, but still dressing for comfort as you can tell from my hair- it took about a second to do! My coffin shaped bag, definitely showed my goth sense of fashion. Doesn't the black and pink checkered bag remind you of Avril's album "the best damn thing's"cover and design? It doesn't come as a surprise as, in my opinion, she's the new child of punk!

'Pretty Preppy' is what I'd name this pic. Here I felt like experimenting with something different and going a bit more extreme. I was totally ready to play golf that day and maybe have a cute instructor help me score a hole in one!=P The plaid skirt was actually mine when i was five years old, it's just way shorter for me now, but that's the point. These cute little pumps from Rockabilly's- a skater shop in Bloem, completed the look perfectly and the black stockings made it look more feminine. The side plait was done to complete the look and my vest and collared top made me feel like I fitted the role!

Lets take a look at this image which is called "A Tinge of Grunge". Kurt Cobain- the lead singer of Nirvana is one of my idols and I like to let people know that, by wearing the oversized band T-shirt. It is a menswear top  and definitely gives off a grunge appeal, which actually describes the genre of the band's music. It was bought at Love Warrior- a sort of a hippie-filled merchandise retailer and my grey sweat pants were bought from Canada two years back, at a store called Garage. I wasn't doing anything that day, so I thought I would get some friends over and hang around the house all day.I think I was dressed appropriately for that occasion.I could also go nap anytime of the day because the clothes I was wearing could totally pass as PJ's.

STREET STYLE VIBES!

I was having a break at LISOF(which is where i study BTW) and I came across a girl sitting and relaxing by the yoga class.Meagan(20),LISOF design college,JHB,1/06/2011. Her style's very girly because of the frills, but her sneakers add a tomboy twist to the whole outfit and she really pulls it off so nicely. The style of  her dark coloured tank and light coloured layered mini skirt look almost exactly the same. She has got the figure to pull it off and she knows the exact borderline between sexy and leaving some to the imagination. She could even go play tennis with the boys in this pretty, little outfit.

If you take a look at this image, Thato,Faith,Loowanda(18) in 70 Juta,JHB,04/06/2011 seem to be having a great time out on the town. Doing some shopping perhaps? I believe so! This picture really shows the fun filled teen girl image, that basically everyone needs in their life. Nothing like girl time right? Their clothes are bright and pretty.Their black boots show sophistication and just by looking at their bright T-shirts and smiles, anyone's day will be made. They seem to fit into their location very well!
Just as the sun is on its way out, I decide to go on a very mini road trip and take some street style images that really lets us appreciate what we won't be having for the next few months.I went to Zoo Lake and saw a few girls having a great time, either getting their thoughts together or just playing with the fallen leaves, as you can see in these two images. Bianca (19) Zoo Lake, JHB 30/05/2011 in this picture was enjoying watching the ducks in the lake and most definitely is a nature person. Somehow her blonde hair and black outfit went perfectly well with the green leaves.(nature being the main focus of this photograph). She doesn't seem to have a worry in the world. I really like this image and chose it, because the movement of the leaves really look beautiful and it shows such tranquil emotion.
Michelle(19)Zoo Lake,JHB,30.05.2011 looked as if she had seen something very amusing or was possibly thinking of something very funny here. She seemed calm and looked as if she just wanted a day out, to get away from the indoors. Her tall silhouette looked beautiful in her skinny jeans and grey long sleeved top. Her outfit combo was very well matched. Her white sneakers gave off an air of  '60s innocence and I'll bet they had good use walking on the grass for many hours that day. I think the brightness of the pictures exemplifies the earthy effect I was aiming for.
TI(19)70Juta,JHB,08/06/2011 was busy enjoying her coffee that cold, winter morning. She was up bright and early and ran to get a muffin and coffee. It's pretty obvious that she is a morning person, dressing the way she does and making the effort to look so good. Her pink scarf and beany match and is a great combo. Her high cowboy boots(I am still looking to buy a pair of my own) just looks oh -so-stylish with her outfit. Her gorgeous sunnies help with the little bit of glare from the sun. "Come on girl! Walk it! You got it going on!"

SA FASHION WEEK SPRING/SUMMER 2011 SMARTEEZ COLLECTION

Whether you like them or not, the "Smarteez Collection" designers wouldn't seem to care. Kepi Mngomezulu, Lethabo Tsatsinyane, Floyd Mantoane and Sibu Sithole seem to be the most happy, lively down-to-earth designers around! They believe in living life freely and this is often shown through their designs, especially at this year's SA Fashion Week. This year, this ultra-fabulous team proved that only a real man could wear one of their designer outfits. If you enjoy living life to the full and like leading a chilled lifestyle, then their clothes are the way to go! "We represent freedom," adds Tsatsinyane in an interview with Sandiso Ngubane. Their prints were very busy this year and the material definitely would be worn for comfort and to add breeze to a very warm day! The models were barefoot which was very suitable for the collection. A hippy would be very impressed! As the screen showed their name, the models just kept strolling slowly in their outfits, giving off an air of happiness and a dash of playfulness.

JOEL JANSE VAN VUUREN: SA FASHION WEEK SPRING/SUMMER 2011

When I attended this year's SA Fashion Week, I really had no idea what to expect, but I must say I was not disappointed, especially with Joels Janse Van Vuuren's designs. His elegant, long, flowy dresses added a touch of femininity and colour to the catwalk. His dresses were bright yet beautiful and stood out from all the rest as it gave a completely different meaning to elegance. Forget about black being the only evening wear colour...check out his collection and you won't be able to miss the soft, shimmery material of his gowns and the lustrious tones thereof. The models had a very soft look to them. This year he decided to bring a more fresh and happy approach compared to last year's collection. He was going for the whole 'less is more' sort of vibe this year and pursued it successfully! The lighting and music was not too 'out there' so they definitely set the mood.
